What activities should we have?

List out some ideas as to what activities can we do or host for critiques. Lets brainstorm on some activities and then we'll follow up on other posts as to the details and whether or not we want to pursue it further.

Formal Competition: Have members bring in printed (only) pieces to be evaluated and scored by an independent expert. This is pretty much done by every other club with great success.

Peer Review: This is very much what we are doing now that is excellent. Have a demonstration in one meeting and then having everyone submit samples based on that demonstration the next week. The review is informal and open to all participants to give feedback.

Mentor Program: I don't know if other groups are doing this, ask experienced users to volunteer to pair up with someone needing assistance in a particular area. It could be a quick discussion or a long-term relationship.

Online Competition: Have a website that members can post pictures on monthly basis and be voted on by other members. The Capital City Camera Club does this and calls it the Photographer of the Month competition.

Online Peer Review: I think flickr has the ability for someone to post an image and anybody can comment on it. I've not used it so don't know exactly how it works.

I think formal competitions, peer review, mentor program and online competitions could work well. I wonder if we could bundle the online competition and online peer review into one.
The formal competition could be the annual show as well as a more informal competition on a quarterly basis.
The online competition seems to work well for the Capital City club and we could probably do that pretty easily.
I really like the mentor program and this would be a matter of matching the more experienced/inexperienced. One possible way of doing this is come up with a list of volunteers who have experience in a given area(s)that could make themselves available to less experienced members. I think people are hesitant to ask for help but if they knew that people had volunteered to answer questions, mentor etc, this may make it easier for them to ask for help.
I agree the peer review that we have now works well.
