Post-Event Comments

WHEW! The first event went pretty well. I was very surprised we got as much response as we did. Thanks go out to everyone and especially Bobbi and Heath!

So, lets put some of our lessons learned on this posting and try to see how we can make the next event better.

Time! Not enough! I think we got our rhythm about 1/2 way into the event.

Here are some suggestions on keeping the event timing "tighter":

1) limit the entries to one per person, that'll allow us to get to more people.
2) limit the artist intro to one minute to highlight the details of the shot or to ask the critiquers for some specific advice.
3) refrain from follow up comments or rebuttals. If the artist needs clarification on a comment, that should wait until the end of the event.

We should ask for a volunteer or two to collect as people show up for the meeting and then have the volunteer handle the displaying of the pieces. There really isn't a need for the artist to come to the front to comment. If we get it down to a good flow, I'm thinking that we can average one picture every 5 to 7 minutes. Keeping that in mind, that's 12ish per hour. It can be a hassle to bring pieces, so doing a signup sheet online maybe? Or a combo of signup and first come ? Due to time, we should limit to no more than 20 pieces for the night.

Here's a sequence:
Before the meeting starts, we should stack the pictures in whatever order we decide on.
1) Volunteer or Reviewer puts piece on display.
2) Owner has opportunity to speak.
3) Reviewer(s) make their suggestions/comments.
4) Audience is invited to make comments
5) Volunteer removes picture or returns to owner as the next piece is put on display.
6) Repeat as needed

Pieces should at a minimum be mounted on cardboard preferably matted, but framing is not required. A lot of people brought framed pieces, I don't want to send the message that framing is required. Plus, it gets a bit hard to manage a stack of frames and we risk damaging them.
